Hedgerow Heroes (Hertfordshire)

Hedgerows are an iconic part of the English landscape, and have been managed by humans for millennia. Anyone who has been lucky enough to spend time in the countryside will have no doubt seen these amazing lines of hedge splitting up different fields, or running alongside roads. These hedges are much more important, and, interesting than people think.

They provide both us and wildlife with a myriad of benefits, such as preventing soil erosion, Sheltering livestock, and increasing biodiversity by providing wildlife habitat for many species of birds, insects, butterflies, and small mammals.

Through volunteering with us, you will be helping to look after our fantastic countryside and its hedges, ensuring the success of this vital project for CPRE Hertfordshire and contributing to our national aims of 40% more hedgerows by 2050.

The countryside can sometimes not be the most accessible place, however, we aim to make these days as fun and inclusive as possible, so everyone can enjoy, and be a part of the landscape.
