Hedgerow Heroes (Bedfordshire)
Our Hedgerow Heroes project centres around the planting and restoration of at least 1000m of hedgerow in Bedfordshire. By volunteering you could be part of this national campaign to extend the UK hedgerows network by 40% by 2050.
We are looking for volunteers to join our small team to help plant hedgerows at various sites in Central Bedfordshire. We normally meet 2 or 3 days during the week - but you can attend when you can.
Planting and restoring hedgerows can prevent soil erosion, increase biodiversity by providing wildlife habitat for many species of birds, insects, butterflies and small mammals and can increase the overall aesthetic appeal of a landscape.
Through volunteering with us you will be helping to look after our fantastic countryside and ensuring the success of this vital project for CPRE Bedfordshire.
We provide out-of-pocket travel expenses should this be required.
No experience is necessary as we'll show you what is involved, mostly light digging and bending to plant hedge saplings. All equipment is provided. We schedule our work weekly during the winter, but all the activity is weather dependent. You'll need to dress warmly but we won't work if the conditions are too unpleasant.
