Planning volunteer (CPRE Derbyshire)

Opportunity image

We cover the whole of Derbyshire except for the Peak District, High Peak and parts of North East Derbyshire bordering on Sheffield. We are a small, but active group, currently recruiting more volunteers to allow us to fully and effectively monitor activity across the whole of our area, as well as responding to new campaign initiatives coming from National CPRE. The National charity recently relaunched its Strategic Plan with an exciting and ambitious vision for its future impact. So this is a great time to get on board! By volunteering with us you’ll be helping to find positive solutions for the issues facing the countryside and the environment. By applying your skills and experience you can make a real difference and be a central part of a friendly and effective charity. As senior planning volunteer you’ll be investigating planning applications and local plan developments which impact the countryside and advising us on how best to influence these decisions. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to national consultations and policy development. More specifically:

  • Advising our group on all matters relating to planning
  • Developing our responses to local plan consultations
  • Investigating planning applications with an impact on the countryside
  • Preparing and submitting responses to influence the outcome of planning applications and appeals
  • Visiting the local planning offices and proposed development sites to look at plans and record details
  • Liaising with parish and district councils and other conservation bodies
  • Seeking to influence Local and Neighbourhood Plans
  • Building relationships with local organisations, to influence their management plans
  • Liaising with the planning team and policy committee at National CPRE to contribute to consultations and policy development

You may be asked to attend our local and regional committee meetings as part of this role. Currently these are being held online.

We’re ideally looking for volunteers with a proven background in the planning system and a keen interest in environmental and countryside issues.
