Trustee (CPRE Derbyshire)

Opportunity image

We cover the whole of Derbyshire except for the Peak District, High Peak and parts of North East Derbyshire bordering on Sheffield.

We are a small, but active group, currently recruiting more volunteers to allow us to fully and effectively monitor activity across the whole of our area, as well as responding to new campaign initiatives coming from National CPRE. The National charity recently relaunched its Strategic Plan with an exciting and ambitious vision for its future impact. So this is a great time to get on board! Currently, the active volunteers within the Derbyshire Group form our Executive Committee. They also our Trustees. A number of current Trustees are long-serving and nearing the end of their term of office. This offers an opportunity to refresh the group by recruiting new Trustees and to reconsider the relationship between Trustees and the Committee as well as how strategic oversight happens. We are also in the process of recruiting a new Chair to lead this process. As a trustee you’ll contribute towards decisions to develop our charity and activities in line with our strategic and policy focus. You’ll also ensure our compliance with governance regulations.

More specifically:

  • Supporting development and implementation of our strategic plan to help us to deliver our mission
  • Supporting the effective and efficient administration of our charity
  • Supporting the recruitment and direction of volunteers and their activities
  • Ensuring we work within charity law and regulations
  • Being an active and positive advocate for CPRE and encouraging others to support our work
  • Safeguarding the good name and values of our charity

We ask that all trustees are, or are willing to become, members of CPRE.

Given we are a relatively small group aiming to grow, our trustees are members of the committee and expected to contribute in a practical way beyond attending committee meetings. This may involve monitoring planning applications in a designated area of the county; lobbying councillors and MPs; writing to local papers; helping arrange events; fundraising; or contributing content and ideas for our website.

We’re ideally looking for volunteers with some previous organisational management experience and/or with charitable executive boards plus an active interest in environmental and countryside issues.
